Previously we had talked about coaching preparation – what coaching was. This time we will continue to explore how to get yourself more ready. If you are going to have a coaching session soon, check this out to make the most out of it.
Coaching Preparation 1 – Identify your focus: This is critical for a fruitful coaching session. As a coachee, you need to ask yourself what you want to achieve. You can figure that out by asking yourself questions like:
1. what do you want to take away from the coaching session?
2. where are you stuck at the moment?
3. how does a better version of you look like?
4. what is the next step you want to take in your career?
Coaching Preparation 2 – Be open and honest: The coach never judges your thoughts, your decisions or your behavior. The coach only helps you to explore your blind spot in order to assist you in making the best solution or decision. Therefore, be open and honest in the discussion. And you will find it very helpful in getting the most out of the coaching session.
Coaching Preparation 3 – Be ready to be challenged: You will be asked plenty of questions and sometimes being pushed to think hard from different angles. Just like being pushed to the corner and squeeze an answer out from yourself. However, if you prepared yourself to be challenged, you will feel more relax in such situation and be able to think in a wider angle of view.
Coaching Preparation 4 – Be ready for change: The desired outcome of coaching is making change. You, yourself is the greatest resistance in the process if you are not embracing change. So prepare yourself emotionally and physically in making change of your situation, your habits, your behavior and your beliefs etc. Here we say not just emotionally, but physically because as long as you try to take action, you can make things happen.
So, are you ready now?
